Human bodies don't naturally come in exact 2-inch increments. If your underbust falls on an odd number (like 31 or 33 inches) or your bust falls between cup letters, here is how to find a comfortable fit.
1. Odd Underbust Measurements (e.g., 31" or 33")
Standard US and UK bra bands are manufactured in even numbers (30, 32, 34, 36). If your underbust measures 31 or 33 inches:
- Round Up to Nearest Even Band: In modern direct underbust sizing, round up to the nearest even number (31 underbust → 32 band).
- Test Sister Sizes: Test both your baseline rounded size and your smaller sister size (e.g. try both 32D and 30DD with a bra extender if needed).
2. Between Cup Letters
If your bust-to-band difference falls on a half-inch (e.g., 3.5 inches difference between C and D):
- Choose stretch-lace cups that conform to half-cup variations without gaping.
- Fit the larger breast if your breasts are asymmetrical, using removable cup pads for the smaller side.
